Framingham man charged in double-homicide

Published by The Boston Globe

A Framingham man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing May 1 of two people at a condominium complex in Hudson, prosecutors said today.

Idelfonso Velez, 28, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Trisha Bennett, 20, and Angel Ortiz, 23, both of Hudson, according to a statement from the Middlesex district attorney’s office.

Judge Robert Greco ordered Velez held without bail followed his arraignment today in Marlborough District Court.

Velez allegedly stabbed the two victims, called police to the scene, and provided investigators with false information ‘‘in an attempt to deflect attention away from his own involvement in these murders,’’ said Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone.

Hudson Police arrived at 200 Manning St. at about 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a home invasion. There, they found Velez in the parking lot with stab wounds. Police entered an apartment and found a trail of blood leading to a bedroom, where the victims were found, the DA’s office said.

Though Velez told police that night he was in bed at the time of the attack, investigators found evidence linking him to the alleged murder weapon, a knife found in the kitchen, prosecutors said.
